Stop the Spread: Combatting HWA to Save the Eastern Hemlock Location: Visitors' Center parking lot, 5052 Delaware Turnpike, Rensselaerville, NY 12147 Saturday, February 27th at 10:00 AM Join Stewardship Coordinator Garrett Chisholm during National Invasive Species Awareness Week on a guided walk through the Huyck Preserve’s majestic hemlock stand along the Rensselaerville Falls. This important forest has been invaded by hemlock wooly adelgid (HWA), an insect pest that threatens the survival of the eastern hemlock. Learn about the important ecological role that hemlocks play in the eastern forest and what the Huyck Preserve is doing to protect its trees and slow the spread. You'll leave knowing how to look for signs of hemlock woolly adelgid at the Preserve, your own yard, or other favorite natural area. This event is free. Registration is required, and the event will be limited to 9 people to maintain social distancing protocols. Masks and social distancing are required. No bathrooms or other indoor amenities will be available; please plan accordingly. Please wear proper clothing an footwear.
