Welcome Ben Prigg!

Join us in welcoming our new Stewardship Coordinator, Ben Prigg! Ben joins the Preserve after working for the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historical Preservation, where he led a team that managed invasive species across Long Island's state parks. Ben has a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from Binghamton University, where he focused on plant ecology and stewardship. He has a deep love for the outdoors and is passionate about responsible land management and fostering healthy ecosystems, enhancing access to the outdoors for all, and strengthening the bond between human communities and the natural world in which they reside. You can find Ben out on the trails of the Huyck Preserve, or in the office planning his next field excursion.

Visit Us

Trails are open from dawn to dusk year-round. Admission is free to walk and hike the trails, picnic, fish and boat (non-motorized) on Lake Myosotis, and for skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Motorized vehicles and bicycles are not allowed. Dogs must be on leash at all times and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. Huyck Preserve is a carry in, carry out preserve. Please help us keep our Preserve beautiful by taking all trash with you. Also, please respect any research sites you may come across while at the Preserve.
Find out current conditions at the Huyck Preserve before you visit.
Our PhenoCam, made possible through a research project at the University at Albany, provides a current view of conditions at our Lincoln Pond.

Our weather station outside Eldridge Research Center continues our long- term weather data collection and helps you plan your visit.
Because the readings shown are instantaneous, the precipitation measurement does not fully reflect our recent history of rain or snowfall.

Our mission is to protect the natural beauty of the Rensselaerville Falls, the watershed of Lake Myosotis and surrounding lands, to conduct long-term research on natural systems as part of a global effort to understand and preserve the Earth's biodiversity, and to increase appreciation of this effort through innovative, field-based educational programs for students, teachers and the community."
