Huyck Preserve Huyck Research Grant Application

Please submit ONE (1) project per grant application. Related projects with separate P.I.'s should be submitted separately.
Please note that approval of multi-year projects does not guarantee funding beyond the first year. Continued funding and permission to conduct research is dependent on successful completion of an annual progress report and a work plan for the following year. The funding level after the first year is contingent on Huyck Preserve budget constraints and may not reflect the initial funding proposal.
    Reference Contact Information
Please include the contact information (name, title, phone, and email) for TWO references. Additionally, please provide your referees with the link to submit their letters of recommendations online located here or by following the link below.  Please remember to check with your referees near the deadline to make sure that recommendation letters have been submitted. It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide references with the necessary recommendation instructions and ensure they are submitted in a timely fashion. Missing letters will prevent consideration of the application.
    Project Proposal
IIn a single document, please upload your project proposal. Be certain to include the following in your proposal:

    1) Project Title, P.I. Names, and Institution

    2) Project Abstract (limited to 200 words)

    3) Project Narrative - The narrative should include the following: (1) a section describing the background and significance of the project; (2) a section stating the main objectives of the study; (3) a methods section, including a project schedule and description of field locations and lab space needed; and (4) a literature cited section. If this is a multi-year project, please include a clear year-to-year schedule for the project.  Applicants working with vertebrate animals must also include wildlife collecting permit numbers and verification that your methods have been approved by an Animal Care and Use Committee/Board. If the P.I. has previously conducted research at the Preserve, please include an additional section summarizing the results of your prior work and list any resulting publication(s).

    4) Project Budget- Please upload the entire project budget being certain to indicate which funds you are requesting from the Huyck Preserve and which funds will be provided from other sources. P.I.'s are encouraged to contact the Huyck Preserve office (research@huyckpreserve.org) to determine equipment available from the Preserve before including equipment costs.  If this is a multi-year project, include a by-year breakdown of expenses.
Please note that with some exception equipment purchased using Huyck Preserve funds will become the property of the Huyck Preserve at the end of the project.
Although the Preserve encourages and expects all projects to result in publication, because it is not guaranteed especially within a certain time period, we cannot fund publication fees through our grant process.

    5) Include a basic description of the lab space and equipment (if any needed) that is required for this project. Please be sure to specify which equipment will be purchased using Huyck Preserve grant monies.

    6) If you will require housing, please indicate how many people, including yourself, will need housing. Please note, only P.I.'s and research assistants working directly on the proposed project are guaranteed housing. All other parties should contact the Preserve main office to reserve and pay for housing (research@huyckpreserve.org). Please read Covid-19 vaccination requirement for Huyck Preserve housing and laboratory use and notice of other protocols on other page.
