Sort Of and drawing activity with illustrator Meg Sodano. Learn about the special adaptations beavers have and how their behaviors impact the ecosystem. Weather permitting, following the indoor activity, we will head outside for a hike around Lincoln Pond (0.8 miles, at a leisurely walking pace) to see the beaver lodges and other signs of beaver activity around the pond. Appropriate for children ages 6+ Parents are asked to stay with their children for the duration of the event. Registration is required. Event capped at 25 people. Event fee: $10 per participant for non-members, $5 per participant for Huyck Preserve members (Payment may be made prior to the event online or at the start of the event.) Meg Sodano grew up in Connecticut, exploring the woodlands and seashore, and drawing her favorite animals. She studied natural science illustration at Rhode Island School of Design and Animal Science at the University of Vermont. She has visited many places where beavers live, trekking across dams and listening to kits mewing inside lodges. She still marvels at the beavers’ engineering talents and their ability to create wetland habitats that benefit a whole array of wildlife. Meg currently lives in Schenectady, NY, where she creates illustrations for children’s picture books.
